First he owned snackbar El Pollo Loco in Domburg, now he runs a store in vintage furniture Fabulous Finds in Winchester (VA). Evert-Jan Akkerdaas met his American wife Debbie-Lee ten years ago, wrote his mum. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it down to Virginia to meet them myself, but the fact itself is worth mentioning here on my weblog.
“It was love at first sight. He sold his snackbar and came to America. They married seven years ago. They are such a nice couple”, describes Ms. Akkerdaas. ”They work hard. After they close down the store, they go to auctions to buy new furniture. They would also like to sell their home, because it’s too big for the two of them. But because of the crisis they can’t. ”

Hope you had a nice time in the US. Sorry you didn’t get to Winchester, VA. We seem to have a lot of people from the Netherlands come to in our shop. Yes, it is a Antiques, Decor shop. Both Evert Jan and I work very hard. Working 7 days a week. We hope to go on holiday to Domburg next Feb. As I love going to Domburg. Times are hard in the US so we will have to see. Evert Jan loves it here in the US but I think he feels a better life would be for us in Domburg. Hope all is fine in the Netherlands for you.
I enjoyed every minute of it and I’ll be back in September for the NY400-activities! The States are too big to visit all the Zeeuwen that contacted me. I couldn’t even visit all the people in the States that I did visit! I think the beach is always very special in winter. It’s a good time to make a long walk and come back refreshed. Good luck with the antiques business. Thanks for writing!
Update on living in American. We will be moving to Holland in a few years if not sooner. To sum it up….we like to drink our coffee out of real cups not paper cups And set down, not walking.
